Reeves Brown, Executive Director of the Department of Local Affairs, was in Lake City this morning to present the Town of Lake City with an Energy Impact Grant award of $600,000 for the renovation of the historic Armory building. The Armory is used daily for school PE classes, recreation and community events, and as the Town Hall. Mayor Bruce Vierheller said that the initial building was built for $15,000 through the sale of shares of stock. “We got quite a bargain!” This will be matched with approximately $330,000 in community contributions raised through Town of Lake City’s savings account for the building and private contributions including a new “sale of historic stock” campaign.
Following the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by Mrs. McClung’s 4th / 5th grade class, Mr. Brown presented a symbolic check, saying that “DOLA is just the pass through. “Lake City has the vision and the whole community made this project happen.”
