Back in 1883, Lake City was in a similar situation as we are today. They needed a new multi-purpose building and they needed funds to build it with. The citizens of 1883 came up with a brilliant idea to raise the funds for the needed building. They formed a corporation and sold shares to the citizens to raise funds for the building. They sold one thousand five hundred shares for $10.00 each and raised the $15,000.00 dollars needed. The citizens of 1883 knew they needed the building and they knew there were no funds available so they had to come up with a solution.
Today we need to make repairs to that grand old building of 1883 and we find ourselves in a similar situation as the folks of 1883, no funds available. The old structure has served our citizens needs for over 130 years and now she need some help to continue serving for many years to come. It is evident that she was well built by Lake City craftsman of yesteryear.
Today’s citizens have taken a page from the past and are offering an opportunity to share in the cost of the needed repairs by buying shares in the repair fund. Shares are being offered for $100.00 each and we need to sell 1,500 shares to raise the necessary matching funds.
Think back to all the times you have gone to the “Armory” for various functions. Buying a share or two is a fair price to pay to be able to continue all the good times that people have had in the grand old building.
