This morning while having breakfast as the sun came over the mountain we realized we were sitting with clouds all around us. We were actually above some clouds as they slowly moved down the valley below. Other clouds were above us where they would open up from time to time revealing the snow covered peaks with the golden Aspens of fall in contrast with the green pines.
There are few sights more beautiful than the clouds all around you, with the early morning sun breaking thru the fluffy clouds from time to time and with the incredible blue Colorado sky showing behind the snow capped peaks. This time of year is especially outstanding with the fall colors adding to the stark contrast of the deep green pine trees.
Living at nine thousand feet above sea level allows us to experience some of these wonders of nature that most people can only see from a low flying airplane.
This time of year is especially mind boggling from the north end of the lake. Many times in the early morning the lake is perfectly flat and still allowing the reflection of the mountains surrounding the lake to have a mirror image on the surface of the water. In many photographs it is very difficult to tell the colorful mountains from the image on the lake.
Living in Lake City is special any time of year. Each season has its own special effects but it seems most people who are fortunate enough to experience the fall colors and the cool mornings with warm afternoons pick this time of year as their favorite.
You might spend all four distinct seasons in Lake City and pick your own personal favorite.
